Case study #1: Roxanna's client--32 year old with PCOS, wants to conceive
History:
She originally came to me worried about her health - fatigue, weight, blood sugar. Had been referred to an endocrine specialist in Houston (we're in Austin) to be tested for Cushings. The tests came back negative. I have some blood work tests from her doctors with some thyroid markers and they show negative for Hashimotos, but she does have an enlarged thyroid gland. We have gone over her food journals and her Nutri-Q - her Nutri-Q has her off the charts in every single category (except "Men Only" :) She has done a purification program, works out regularly. We just completed a DiagnosTechs GI panel and MRT. I thought there were be a lot wrong with the GI panel, and while there are some issues, I was shocked that there weren't a lot more. I have her on digestive support, Anti-Fungal Diet (scant Candida on GI Panel) plus Gut Flora Complex to kill off Candida, Red & Yellow MRT foods out of diet (just started), DGI Synergy for elevated Alpha 1 antichymotrypsin (GI Revive was out of stock) Critical Digestion product for Chymotrypsin - low. Spanish Black Radish for drainage.
I have not had her track her blood sugar yet, but will talk to her about it at our next appointment. From one of her doctor's blood test results, she came in at a 97 on glucose, they did not test insulin. She is at her highest weight ever, 200 pounds, works out religiously and is eating a good diet. I'd really like to help her lose that weight.
Her doctor currently has her on Nexplanon (subdermal birth control) which she wants off of. She says her doctor will insist that she go on Metformin for the PCOS, which is supposed to help with blood sugar, but also (internet search) says it forces the body to ovulate. As her digestion gets healed, I'm not sure how to negotiate the next level of balancing hormones and how Metformin plays into all of this.
